Let's ground together.


The problem

Because our lower limbs bear our
weight, we tend to lock our knees and create rigidity: the whole body becomes very rigid and stiff.

Our feet are connected with our legs, so we want to keep that connection, but also the

space within the ankles, knees, and hips joints

We also want to keep the  arches of our feet alive.

We want to use that aliveness, these little tripods in the most efficient way so we can stand, and walk like a princess – without using so much effort!

Exercise in a nutshell

Start bare feet.

Step 1: Find a comfortable way to stand

Notice how your feet are meeting the ground again: the heels, the toes…

You want to keep the neck free and the head going forward and up to allow your back to lengthen and widen. 

Notice the breathing.

Then really let the weight go down through your heels: don’t push back but drop your weight.

If you want to check, you can slightly drop the weight forward, and then backward, just playing a bit with finding your balance.

Now, you have a sense of gravity – there is a force which helps you to stand there.

Check that your joints are free (ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists…).

Ah. Is the breath there still?

Step 2: Walking like a princess

First we are just going to think about freeing the neck and letting the head go forward and up.

We can also free the ankle joints…

And maybe we can just let one knee go slightly forward, easily, so one heel goes off.

Keep breathing.

The knee, ankle, hip, very free… And gently put the heel back down.

Let the other knee go forward easily, notice the breath, the space.

And gently back down.

Maybe one more time for each.

And maybe at some point, we allow the neck the neck to be free, the head to lead and the rest of the body just follows… And we are walking!

But keep checking: easy neck and head, easy joints.

Walking is like a constant falling! So enjoy gravity. And just practice walking princess, allow the gaze to lead you…
